Calzaghe puts onus on Froch

Welsh boxing great Joe Calzaghe is one of only two men to have ever come out with his hand raised against Mikkel Kessler and according to the legendary boxer, Englishman Carl Froch is on his way to joining that elite group come the 25th of May.

Calzaghe, a former Super Middleweight titlist, still vividly remembers the scene when he took on Kessler in front of a packed home support of 50,000 at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff as he landed blow after blow on his way to an unblemished record in 46 fights.

American Andre Ward is the only other boxer to win against Kessler but Calzaghe believes The Cobra Froch will get his revenge for the defeat he suffered at the hands of the Dane a couple of years back when he takes him on in a rematch at the O2 Arena in London. Calzaghe stated that it was a monumental occasion for him, fighting in front of a packed crowd of 50,000 at home against Kessler, who was still undefeated at that time, before admitting that the win against the Dane ranks easily among the top three wins of his career.

He mentioned that Mikkel Kessler was a far better fighter when he beat him, with a record of 39-0 at that time. He mentioned that he still remembers Kessler moving very well and landing some hard punches on him but he adapted to his style and Kessler couldn’t cope up with that and dropped the fight.

And the 41 year old believes Froch is someone who has aged better compared to Kessler and he still boasts of some fast hands where as the Dane is not as quick as he used to be and that is playing things right into the hands of the Englishman dying for revenge.
